Branding Le Club Noir, indie-pop band from Milan, Italy.
The only boundary they gave to me was to design an identity inspired by suprematism and the art of Kazimir Malevic.
The first thing I did was to redesign the existing logo, which used Malevic's cross. I chose a typeface that fitted nicely within the cross shape, and I also created a secondary version of the logo, to avoid readablity issues at smaller sizes.
I then designed the actual look & feel, to be used for print and web application.
I decided to borrow geometrical patterns from the pop-art world, and to use them as a grid.
This approach aimed to keep the order and the structure of suprematist compositions, still giving the identity a more contemporary and youthful look.
The band was so excited by the final result that they kindly organised a small vernissage, happening in concomitance with their first album presentation.
The event featured 8 limited edition canvas, designed for the occasion.
